Psych Experiments, Tuataras, and Rugby.. oh my!

What a lazy week. It’s been rainy, and I’ve been severely lacking motivation. I didn’t accomplish much this week, but I feel like I’ve been on the run for a while, so it was good to just slow down.
Monday, I participated in the second part of a psychology research project at school. I helped out some students a while ago, and they needed more from me for their study. I guess it has something to do with how different cultures react in different situations. It was a little ambiguous, but it was easy, and I got a $10 supermarket voucher each time. Since I can’t get a job here, I’ll take anything I can get!
We have a little tribe of tuatara on campus, and I finally got around to taking some pictures of them. Tuatara are only in New Zealand, and were probably around during the time of the dinosaurs. Although they look like lizards, they're actually part of another type of grouping that is now extinct. They're pretty cool.
The happiest tuatara!
Thursday was the only other day of the school week I did anything notable. I unfortunately had to walk up to Kelburn, although I didn’t have class that day, to hand an assignment in. At least it was nice out! I also went to a seminar called Against Leadership. It’s part of the Victoria International Leadership Program (VILP) that I’m participating in while I’m here. All I have to do to complete VILP is attend some speaker events and seminars, which are all really interesting! I’ve been to events about global feminism, green cars, and leadership. I’m learning and building my resume all at once! (This is what university life is doing to me...)

My little lemons! They should start to smell good anytime now...

I saw on pinterest that you could grow lemons from the seeds, so a few weeks ago I planted some seeds in a mug. They grew slowly at first, but they’re going crazy now! It’s so nice to have some green around me since I feel like I’m always surrounded by concrete and skyscrapers.
Friday, I went to my very first live rugby game. It was so intense! I’d seen rugby on television before, but it was different in person. I saw the Wellington Hurricanes play the Waikato Chiefs, and although the Hurricanes started out strong, the Chiefs won. I didn’t really understand what was going on, but it was still cool! I have a lot of learning to do about the different sports here. I brought my big camera lens, and I got some really awesome photos!

Westpac Stadium... Massive!
I had to.
Action shot! I don't know what they were doing, but it looks cool!
I am so lucky to have such a great family. They all got together and skyped me for what seemed like hours on Saturday. Well, Saturday afternoon NZ time and Friday night Maine time. It was so good to see the three of them together! It’s getting harder and harder to not be able to see my family or just pick up the phone and talk to them. I’ll see them soon enough!

Missing a couple four legged family members, but still a good family photo!
I had to walk down to the museum, Te Papa, to skype, because I have a silly internet restriction at my apartment, and skyping uses it all up! I am now grateful for free internet as well as free food and alcohol. It was convenient though, because there’s a new exhibit at Te Papa and I spent some time wandering around after I finished skyping. The new exhibit had a ton of artwork, mostly from New Zealanders. It was incredible. No photos allowed, though :\
I’ve been pretty lazy for the rest of Saturday. It's a rainy weekend so I don't feel bad! Sometimes it’s nice to just stay in, get cozy, make some tea, and watch a movie or read a book. I get exhausted from constantly running up to Kelburn or across town for class, or exploring the city. I generally try to spend most of my time out of my flat, so I experience as much as possible, but this weekend I might just stay in and avoid the rain :)
